The Daytona Car Racing Arcade Game
One of the most popular sports in the US today is auto racing, and it only makes sense that one of the most popular arcade games involves the fast-paced and exciting sport. Seeing the popularity of racing, Sega introduced the arcade game Daytona USA in 1993 in Japan, and in 1994 in the US, to racing enthusiasts and video game fans around the world.
When it was first introduced, Daytona USA was thought to be the most detailed 3-D game, visually, ever created. Featuring texture mapping, this popular arcade game was much more realistic than its predecessors. Playing Daytona USA is a racing experience in itself, with the players sitting in the driver's seat behind their own wheels. This can be a one or two-player game, with two players competing against each other for the winning cup. There are even options to link game cabinets, allowing for eight players to compete against each other at the same time.
Playing Daytona USA In Arcades
Your car, the "Hornet" is a stock car that you race along your choice of three different tracks. Just like in real life, you have the option to use an automatic or a manual transmission. Your objective: to outrace your competition, including your friend sitting in the car beside you! To add even more fun to the game, Sega released a new version of the game, and changed the difficulty of your computer competition.
Play Daytona USA At Home
Video game enthusiasts with the Sega Saturn were given the opportunity to play Daytona USA at home in 1995, when the home version of the game was introduced. In 1996, a Windows version of the game was also introduced for computer gamers.
Improvements on the home version were made, and the upgrades were introduced for the Sega Dreamcast gaming system. The graphics were better, actually better than the original arcade version, and the number of tracks to race on increased to eight: three tracks from the original arcade version of the game, three new, original tracks, and two tracks from the Saturn Championship Circuit Edition. And, two players could compete against each other with a split screen.
The home version of Daytona USA offers Arcade mode and Saturn mode. Arcade mode allows players to choose from two cars, a manual car or an automatic one. Players have time limits for their races, and they must reach their checkpoints as quickly as they can. The Saturn mode gives players eight cars to choose from. There are three levels of play to choose: beginner, advanced and expert.
Upgrade For Even More Fun
If you are looking for more options and control over the Daytona USA game, you may want to purchase the Daytona GTX 2004 Upgrade Kit. Enhancements allow players to earn points, which they can trade in for modifications to their cars, which can include adding armor, turbo-charging the car, and changing tires. When the player is finished playing, they are given a code that they can enter the next time they play. Using this code will allow players to return to the level they left off at. Points are saved, to be used at any time for car upgrades.
Video game lovers and racing enthusiasts alike will enjoy playing this classic game, at their local arcades, or in the comfort of their own homes.
